About
McCambridges of Shop Street has been a family owned supermarket and delicatessan on Shop Street in Galway for over 100 years so it was indeed a challenge to convert a first floor store room into a new restaurant with new internal interlinking stairs. The family were taking a risk to take on this challenge and happily our design solution and concept turned out to be a great success.
Key to its success we felt that the stairs must link the ground and first floor internally and remain open such that the buzz of the ground floor supermarket was experienced in the first floor space. The decor plays off of the contrast between the heavyness of the structural steel frame against the scandinavian inspired light oak woodwork, and the traditional elements of newly constructed window surrounds, shutters, furniture rails and wallpaper.
